The Leitha Mountains, called “Leithaberg” by locals, are the final foothills of the Alps before the Pannonian Plains. This landmass rises to approximately 1300 vertical feet and is 3-4 miles wide and 22 miles long, stretching from northeast to southwest. A group of 15 vintners have joined together with the goal of expressing this unique terroir in their wines. The soils of the Leitha Mountains are dominated by slate and marine limestone. The resulting wines are neither powerful nor voluptuous, but very mineral in character with great depth and a tightly woven, taut structure.
